Historic Wonders, Unsolved Mysteries, Aliens,
so-proclaimed Haunted Places, and
anything superhuman always enjoys a
special treatment since ages – it’s as if people are repelled by the single
instance of a ‘dull boring routine life’. Some incidents attract global
attention while many stay confined to that region. Many others are
diplomatically buried down and people remain aloof of what exactly happened. Indian Ghost stories have always been
spoken about all over the world due to various reasons, one of them being a mysterious history attached with the
nation.
One such legend is all about the historic Fort
of Bhangarh. Traditionally, Indian forts
are famous for their battles, castles & palaces, the impavid dwellers and
their momentous love tales. This one, though, won its fame for different
reasons.
Established in 1573 during the rule of Raja
Bhagwant Das, nobody would have ever thought that this creation would become
famous for reasons beyond the physical drapes. Bhangarh, a place in India located between Jaipur and Delhi
in Rajasthan state is known for its
archaeological ruins. So what transformed this once-a-royal-powerhouse into a haunted abode? Well, let’s go a couple
of centuries back to two myths which claim to be a reason to the present state
of this fort.
One myth is that the Bhangarh city was
cursed by Guru BaluNathwho sanctioned the establishment of the town with one
condition, saying, "The moment the shadows of your palaces touch me, the
city shall be no more!" When one of the descendents raised the palace to a
height that casted a shadow on BaluNath's forbidden retreat, he cursed the town
as prophesied. BaluNath is said to lie buried there to this day in a small
samadhi (a state of complete absorption of individual’s consciousness in the
self at the time of death).
Other stronger myth tells us
that the fort was supposedly abandoned soon after it was built. A magician
named Singhia, well versed with occult was attracted to Ratnavati - the
princess of Bhangarh. He knew that the match would never be supported by the
royal family. One day, he saw the princess’ maid in the market buying scented
oil for the princess. Using his black magic he put a spell on the oil which
would hypnotize the princess by the mere touch of the oil and would make her crave
for him. The princess, however, seeing the magician enchanting the oil, foiled
his plan by pouring it on the ground. As the oil struck the ground it turned
into a boulder, which killed Singhia. While dying, Singhia cursed the palace
with the death of everyone who would dwell there and their souls would stay
there for centuries without rebirth. Next year saw an intense battle between
Bhangarh and Ajabgarh and no mortal survived - neither civilian nor royal.
A warning sign outside the Bhangarh Fort by the Government of India |
The Bhangarh
mystery remains unsolved; people are yet dumbfounded. The fact remains that
the entry to Bhangarh is legally prohibited before the sunshine and after the
sunset. This town is also termed as “the ghost town” adding further to the
mystery of this Haunted Indian fort.
hey there. Well, like everybody here even i thought this place to be haunted until i saw "A Road Less Travelled with Johnathan Legg" on The History Channel, a few days back. He actually spent the night with his camera man inside the Bhangarh fort and came out the next morning all fresh. The guard who found them threatened for an action and after being told about the show he ended up sayin', "There's nothing as ghosts here, there are only wild animals who, from the nearby forests sneak into the ruins for hunting. They may hunt humans that is why the Archeological Board has placed the sign there." :)
ReplyDeleteghost are every where, you cannot run away from good or bad spirits that surrounds mankind, a group of teenagers went to attend a funeral at a distance village (from their own village in the 70s about an hour walk) decided to return home beneath the bright full moon when suddenly they smell a strong perfume, they saw tall figures walking over the distant hills then vanish, the poor teenagers ran fast to the bridge that connect to the village road to their village that night where the next morning they are receiving scoldings from elders. Evelyn @ Mak Balu This incident happen when I was living in Government quarters, my sister and I had been friends with a neighbor children, the two brothers Jaidi and Leon, we would collect midin (wild fern) with some other youngsters. One day it hot sunning with rain, all of us were scared, one side of the forest has been cleared by the contractor for housing projects, we met the foreman where he offerred us hot tea and crackers in the make shift tent We told him that were picking some wild ferns, the foreman told us that his coolies used to pick wild ferns and looking for bamboo shoots. Suddenly the wind was blowing hot and we all shivered, every one sneezed becos every one smell the strong "all spice" cologne, we felt numb on our joints. Bonny and Buba, the local breed dogs was barking up and down where Jaidi was giving his lips signal, there we saw something grey like V shape upside down having curly hair, showing his long lanky legs. We went home after the rain stopped, we did not bring the wild ferns back in case they might belong to the hairy legs, the resident ghost. This incident happen in 1968 or 1969
